Madonna ends her Sticky and Sweet Tour at Dolphin Stadium on Wednesday. Of course, that means there just may be a sighting or two around town of the soon-to-be-single pop star. But as wait for Madonna to arrive, we can kill some time Friday night at the T-Mobile BlackBerry Luxe Club Series featuring DJ Danny Masterson spinning at Mansion from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cocktails are free during that time; for information on admission, go to www.the-luxeclub.com.
In sceney food news, despite rumors of troubles, the former Angler's Hotel restaurant Maison d'Azur has settled nicely into the Hotel Astor. And a new sister restaurant, Layla, a Modern Moroccan Restaurant and Lounge, has joined it. At least it's not another steakhouse.
Making a difference over at The Gansevoort South is Opium Group's latest foray into lounging. Louis, which opened rather quietly last week, is a French electro-punk inspired lounge complete with graffiti art, "Marie Antoinette-inspired decor" and French military-style uniforms (Rhythm Nation redux?). The space exudes VIP vibes with two crystal-adorned bars and 25 table areas. When asked how the hoi polloi can get into Louis, Opium's VP of communications, Vanessa Menkes, said "Best bet is to feign your best Left Bank accent, drop Gagosians name, say youre a relative of Sarkozy, or hope to be mistaken for Sofia Coppola."
Meanwhile, Nikki Beach has a new resident DJ presiding over the turntables. As CEO of Gotsoul Records and creator of the highly acclaimed Therapy Soiree party, DJ JoJo Flores has come a long way from his original Montreal residencies in the '80s. Voted "Best International DJ" by NYC's Underground Archives, Flores has served residencies in New York, California, Dubai and Athens. House music fans can witness JoJo Flores in action at Got Soul Saturdays from noon to 7 p.m.
Finally, on Friday night, Wilhelmina celebrates its 10th anniversary in Miami at Plunge and Louis at Gansevoort South. Among the guests expected: Beverly Johnson; Mark Vanderloo, Alex Lundquist and Dan'ee Doty. Of course, the party is by invitation only, but bucking that system is more than half the fun.
