Thursdays at Plunge: The wow factor at this celestial shindig is through the roof, no pun intended. Eighteen stories above the madness of South Beach, this tropical paradise atop The Gansevoort is the perfect place to start your Thursday evening, or the place to stay, if you like fresh air, warm breezes and a refreshing taste of the good life. Ice sculptures, plush white couches and foliage surround a gorgeous 110-foot-long pool. While most manage to stay dry, don't be surprised if you catch daring partygoers taking a dip.
This party is the brainchild of Michael Capponi, a master nightlife promoter in South Florida known for attracting upscale crowds of global jetsetters, and it's the eclectic and international crowd - a spontaneous combination of locals and foreigners -- that makes this party work so well. Although the party is only five months old, word has spread quickly among the glitterati. Young Hollywood scenesters Lauren Conrad, Sean William Scott, Brittany Murphy, Kevin Federline and Gabrielle Union have all been spotted kicking back here, not to mention Miami Heat and Dolphins players as well as high profile congressmen.
Word has also gotten out about the strawberry champagne mojitos, which come by the glass or by the pitcher to share. Fancy a snack? Food service offered here includes a sushi bar with mouthwatering hamachi lobster rolls and tuna tataki. If you're with a big crowd of friends, an assorted platter may be the perfect way to make everyone happy.
A former model and actress, the gorgeous DJ Amália Leandro reaches her crowd with great transitions and a beautiful open format set. Thanks to her, things get going around 9 p.m. and carry on until 2 to 3 in the morning.
